I would strongly suggest everyone to acquaint himself/herself with the legislative process and how a bill moves through different phases / steps before it becomes a law. You can find many postings documenting the process.
Right now it is just introduced in the senate. The problem for us is that Sen Durbin is Democratic Whip (i.e. Assistant Majority Leader) which gives him tremendous influence over garnering votes and referring which legislation to consider to the Majority Leader (Harry Reid in the Senate). Ultimately Reid decides which legislation get priority consideration. The fact that Grassley is a Republican and is close to the Minority Leader (I think) does not help us either. We will monitor the progress of the bill.

On a bleak day, I do commiserate with it - heck I do sometimes even cross over to play the devils advocate (Note: it is an expression, I am not saying we Indians are devils (I need to clarify, because there are some who take literal meaning at times)), but in the end, I have to come back to the quota being an enabler to control the "rush" of applicants.

The per-country quota system is mentioned in the statues even before family or EB is discussed. Family based immigration have the per country quota too (why should an Indian Family suffer for X years, while families of other countries are able to unite sooner), but I dont see that we asked to remove the the quota completely. We only asked for removal in EB (but that is deviating from the topic).
I am not anti-immigrant, just because I argue against some provisions does not make me anti-immigrant (well the same charge will be leveled against us by CIR folks because we dont take/support their approach), and no I dont yet have my GC. I may be whatever, but I will not burn the bridge after crossing it (though I have been known to burn the bridge while I am still on it).
Yes, laws can (and shall) be changed, but can't we discuss the good and bad of what we are changing? I have seen many a legislation that have good intent at heart, but many times ends up without checks and balances (and eventually misused).

Awesome idea, the problem is , i hope i am wrong; the IV "browsing community" is so fractured and pesimistic. any mention of "paid" membership will turn them off .... maybe thats what we need ... Only serious members who really want to make a difference ....

What a stupid post.
Do you really think that all EB3 people are no US-educated? EB2/EB3 is dictated by job requirements and not the actual qualifications of someone. I am graduate of a top ranked US university but applied in EB3 since my job didn't require M.S and my company didn't want to manipulate the job requirements.
I am sure there are many more like me who were qualified for EB2 but applied in EB3.
If this is the best you can come up, I really hope that this was your first and last post.

Fight for comprehensive immigration reform or HR 5882 recapture BUT for god's sake Do not blame the EB2 - India people who have played by the rules and are in a favorable position today relative to EB3 !!
The lawsuit against PD porting makes sense from an EB2 perspective and they are right to go ahead with it. Porting your PD from EB3 to EB2 makes sense from an EB3 perspective and every EB3 should try to do it before this door closes, if it does.

I am not trying to criticize or anything but just trying to understand if we are getting excited about something which is destined to fail already (I made all the calls and also personally made 5 others to make calls yesterday). If its a strategy not to discuss too much its fine with me - hope there is still a fair chance for 5882.

EB3 I is bad and will get worse. EB 3 ROW will also get screwed big time because of the 300k namecheck victims who are now eligible for visas. Trickle down will also be impacted because of that. USCIS uses short sighted methods to clear their hurdles, they dont realize that there is person behind each visa number. Either these people cant understand irony, or they really are just learned "angootha-chap", or they are addicted to red-doting people (pretty much bringing the prophecy of the original poster true).

I had a question for all on the eb3 to eb2 porting - once the new EB2 labor gets approved and one applies for I-140 lets say in premium processing with the interfiling letter - does one need to reapply for I-485 once the I-140 is approved for the Eb2 application? This is for many EB3 folks that have been waiting after having applied for for I-485 in 2007. Any insight will be appreciated.
