It is a very complicated case, I don't think any one on this forum is qualified to answer your questions, but the incident is indeed a tragic one.
I don't think your GC will be affected though as it is a civil and not a criminal case.
Thanks guys for the moral support and quick responses.
More details are as follows:
1. This accident occurred in 18 months back in CA
2. We were going on high way and suddenly the car infront of me came to a sudden halt and as I didn't had any reaction time, even though I applied brakes I went and rammed into the van in front of me, which in turn hit the car infront (like a ripple effect) and totally 8 cars were involved in that collision.
3. So at first we thought it is entirely my fault as I was coming at 50s and I rear ended the care which inturn created this ripple effect.
4. But the actual scenario is, the van infront of me came to halt, as it rear ended the car infront of it and due to which the other car hit the one infront.
So already one accident happened and I caused one more and as mine was a 11 seater and coming at 50s the impact was high and involved in 8 cars.
All this happened within in mins or secs, I would say
--> --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Myself car1 car2 car3 car4 car5 car6 car7
In the above pictorial representation,
a) car 1 hit car2 which in turn hit car3 (1st impact)
b) Myself hit car1 again which ripple effected all the way upto car7 (2nd one)
I was the only person injured and and had to be hospitalized with bi-lateral hip fractures and right knee fractures and was out of work for 4 months.Luickly my insurance covered most of the amount thats been charged(around 300K)
Finally I recovered to a great extent and out of blue gets a lawsuit from the owner of car3 against myself, Car1 and car2.
BTW, insurance determined that my fault is 80% as I caused the greater collision and they paid the property damages for all the cars involved.
As per the lawsuit, seems car3 drivers spouse had herniated disc due to this accident and are expecting $200,000 for future treatment
So they are claiming the following:
3 milliion for : other damages(emotional etc.....)
200,0000 for: future treatment
50,000 for: lost wages
Thats is what the story of my life :(
Hope this gives u more details to provide me with more suggestions.

Do you know the history of NPR? Do you know how it is funded or how it operates?
Here's some information:
NPR supports its operations through a combination of membership dues and programming fees from over 860 independent radio stations (http://www.npr.org/stations/), sponsorship (http://www.npr.org/about/place/corpsupport/) from private foundations and corporations, and revenue from the sales (http://www.npr.org/transcripts/) of transcripts, books, CDs, and merchandise. A very small percentage -- between one percent to two percent of NPR's annual budget -- comes from competitive grants sought by NPR from federally funded organizations, such as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (http://www.cpb.org/), National Science Foundation (http://www.nsf.gov/) and the National Endowment for the Arts (http://www.nea.gov/).
http://www.npr.org/about/privatesupport.html
On average, public radio stations (including NPR Member stations) receive the largest percentage of their revenue (34%) from listener support, 24% from corporate underwriting and foundations, and 13% from CPB allocations.*
Also note:
NPR sponsors receive on-air acknowledgement for their financial support via ten second announcements that are broadcast during NPR programs. Online sponsorship is also available.
http://www.npr.org/about/place/corpsupport/
(In other words, the on-air acknowledgements boil down to advertising.. ).
Now let's take a step back and determine how most "professional organizations" like IEEE, AILA, and myriad other "associations" function...
Does it make more sense now?
Physicians have physicians' associations/bodies/organizations.
Engineers have their own. So do pilots, nurses, actors, screen writers, photographers, sales professionals, etc.
If we pride ourselves as an organization of high-skilled professionals, why not look at it as such and operate as such??? (Those who do not currently contribute may also be motivated to participate, even if just for the tangible benefits... )
jazz
Paid membership will not benefit the cause of IV at all. IV is a volunteer organization and paid membership will not do any good. Better approach is to raise awareness and tread a fine balance in asking for contributions.
Look at NPR. (National Public Radio) It is a public radio service and it's expenses are mostly footed by volunteer members like those who contribute for IV today. I think the key is raising the awareness and realizing that results take time.

I guess USCIS is getting pretty smart. To be a plaintiff in the lawsuit, your application has to get rejected. By holding your application, it is probably preventing you to be a plaintiff. Smart F***ing A**es
It does NOT need to be rejected. It can be rejected, or, there is a reasonable expectation it will get rejected. This is established by USCIS press release that they will reject all applications. Thus, the applications can sit there and the lawsuit will move forward.

Received one today.
Weirdest thing:
Person's 140 was revoked by employer;
person received notice of intent to deny. NOID clearly stated that 140 was revoked by employer then quoted ac21 law and said beneficiary may be eligible and to give job offer letter.
person responded with letter from new ac21 employer with perfectly matching job duties/descriptions.
uscis sent denial. Denial only stated that 140 was revoked and 140 immigrant petition is needed to get greencard.
Don't know if this is a new procedure that they are following the main law where a valied 140 is needed the whole time.
So do you think they are going after AC21 folks as a scapegoat? I spoke to few people on this including lawyers and they say that "denials on 485" when 140 gets revoked is a common thing and usually the officer who issues the denial letter does not check and verify to see other details. Thats why they have to go through the MTR process.

There are many good strategies but I have no idea on sophistication of each individual. For example right now you can sell credit default swaps on Goldman sachs medium senior secured notes and hedge it with delta units of binary in-the-money call options on the VIX. This will give you synthetic exposure to the notes with steady cash flow and the binaries are cheap. If goldman defaults the VIX will sky rocket giving you a handsome payout better than what you will have to pay on the senior secured notes because of high recovery rate if all the default climbs up to the senior tranche. Actually this would be equal to the end of the world in todays market.
Or better yet just buy SPX and sit, the market is doing all the work for you.
The US natural gas market is in contango (I swear this is not jargon:o, there is no other term). So buy long dated/leap calls at the money now. In 2 years you will be so deep in the money you wont know what to do. But average retail investor cannot hedge this as he cannot trade spot.
So I guess my point is there are sophisticated ways to make money for which the average retail investor has no access to. If there is a simple way then it has already been exploited under the no-arbitrage clause of free markets.
If you have 2-5 year horizon. Go long the market and sit on it would be my best advice. If people want to meet and share ideas I am open to it. I live in NJ so NY/NJ is fine spot to meet.
good thread. I do little bit of trading myself from a personal brokerage account and made some pocket change (few hundreds by trading commodity ETFs) recently. in layman terms, can u explain wht do u mean by ' US natural gas market is in contango' .

Anyone wh0 has doubts on where big corporations stood on issues like VB fiasco need only look at this:
http://fdbl.com/resources/priorityfaqs.shtml
under Q11 pn chances of reversal, this is what they say "However, the probability of relief is remote and the form of relief is uncertain.
FRAGOMEN and the American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) will continue to work with the government at all levels for some kind of relief, but again the form of any potential relief is uncertain."
Why is the above important? Because it's a window into their mindset. Like any responsible corporate firm they wanted to sound a little empathetic but didn't want to give false hopes by saying a reversal was possible though they probably knew the outrage among potential filers who had been dealt a nasty blow below their belt. But VB disaster was one issue where there was not even the slightest doubt that what had happened was horribly wrong and cruel that even some cold-hearted anti-immigrants were confused for a day or two and didn't know what to say because they didn't want to pile on our heartache. The way CIS works had, like any bureacracy over time become a cold and heartless beast but since they deal mostly with non-citizens who have little rights and feel so unsecure and unwelcome in the first place to ever speak out, they were never going to know how their actions are wreaking havoc on their customers lives. So unless affected people come together and act they are never going to know how bad it sucks to be on this end of the divide. And ofcourse it's not all CIS - they are just an arm of the government carrying out the law. it's going to be next to impossible to do anything without congress stepping in. And while Fragomen is definitely not lying when they say they will work for some relief and probably are given that their partners often show up on congressional hearings, they won't lose sleep over it nor will their passion levels be anywhere near that of those who are directly at the receiving end of this current ugly messi.e iv and it's browsers. That's why it's critical that iv be heard - & not just through flower campaigns. ofcourse bringing together immigrants was always going to be like herding cats but it shouldn't be this hard. give money people!

I am not endorsing any fund or product. You have to do your own research and you have to figure out your own risk appetite- Disclaimer
Superfund is a hedge fund which has two funds of managed futures. Its enrty was $5K last time I checked. But again in a hedge fund you typically pay 2 & 20. That means 2% maintenance and 20% off the profits and there is huge down side risk where your entire investment can be wiped out. Tread carefully!!
Again a great post. Just want to comment that be careful with ETF's too. Most of the ETF's are not physical commodity holders. They play in futures and OTC swap markets.
I have looked hard to find ETF's or MF's fwhich are pure commodity holders e.g gold, silver etc.I still have not found good ones. The closest I could get was some portfolio of mix of real assets and futures. Most of the ETFs are again leveraged and kind of trap for average investors.
There are a few hedge funds or big funds which might offer pure plays but those tend to have huge entry investment requirement basically making them inaccessible to individual small investors.

Wooooooooohoooooooooooooo...
I received a sms saying that my case status has been updated (weird they sent it @ 9:25 pm PT). I was like here comes another biometrics appointment... but still let's check the status online. To my surprise and by god's grace, case status was changed to "Card/Document Production" (still cannot believe it). I dunno what triggered this but i did contact my Congressman yesterday. My wife's status has also changed to "decision" - should move to "Card production" soon.
My suggestion to all of you - please don't lose patience and do whatever you can from your end to expedite your case. It's your GC and you've to make sure you get it. Contact I/O, infopass and congressman/senator. Don't expect anything from your lawyers as they only care about money and it is in their best interest to see your case pending (more RFEs, EADs, APs, etc).
Thanks and all the best to all of you out there still waiting for your GC.
congrats!!
That is the exact response I got for my SR.
I have contacted our congressman's office yesterday for help..lets see how it goes.
I gave my 2nd finger prints on july 28th.
So far nothing.

Guys, please make mention about the wastage of estimated over half a million visas over the last decade due to bureaucratic and processing inefficiencies at the USCIS, while we have been waiting patiently.
The best outcome for us in all honesty would be a visa recapture legislation to get those of us at the 485 stage out of the system.

PAPPU and Others,
We pay taxes PLUS Social Security for which we dont get any benefit. Dont miss that.
Let us be assertive about that.
we try to mention in our media interviews about us paying all the taxes and playing by the rules, still the anti immigrants pursue this misinformation campaign against us. We will all try to ensure that in every media interview we say that we pay all taxes..
