If it were for some of the antiimmigrant folks, my friend you (sugaur) wouldn't be here a day longer. you would be "out" in a wink from this country. so dont consider yourself too supportive of anti-immigration. Even citizens are favoring resolving the ilegal immigration crisis by granting some legality to those who are here ilegally. Dont support ilegal immigration but atleast dont bash those who show support to resolving this crisis. you and me are mere temporary visitors here. please remember that your country is not this. you are here seeking prosperity and so are they. this country has a way of dealing with them and us and neither has been satisfactory so far. So my friend why side with one and sound righteous? Sympathy is universal and is shown even to the person going to be hanged. yes, we are definitely expecting a response and thats why we are stating the timeline.
At minimum, we definitely need to higlight with details as to how USCIS is playing with us.
Nobody can predict whether we will get a response or not. But, we definitely need to satisfy ourselves that we fought till the last.
2 or 3 years back, nobody expected IV to achieve anything. Look what IV has achieved today. It only happened through relentless protests.
During July fiasco, everybody was resigned to getting their 485 files returned back. The force of IV protest made the reversal.

If my wife who is an MBA finance from Mumbai, currently working as a corporate banker with one of the top 5 banks in the world comes to the US on an H4 & decides to do a CPA certification, can she work on OPT until the H1B quota opens up next year???
It will be ok as long as they give her an F1. Here is something from a website -

The relation can sometimes be fairly loose; for example, a math major would often be relevant to a business job involving statistics, analysis of data, financial figures, etc. The determination is up to your employer, but they are well advised to be cautious. I am trying to make my second $100 contribution using my American Express card but am getting this message below:
"We were unable to verify this credit card through our card validation process. To proceed with checkout, please verify the information you entered is correct or try a different card."
I have tried 3 times and there's no problem with the info I am keying in. Is there a problem using American Express cards?

Good one, Change to workflow should not be an issue, but we should have IV core support and reasonable to pool of money (not peanuts) to make this a success. I would recommend to run a funding drive, specially for this effort once IV core endorses this effort. In day to day life, Everything begins with $, you get what you pay for and nothing is free.

Denatured, looks like no one knows the exact answer. It's only the 2nd year we've had the lottery, and last year it was unexpected so not many people had 2 applications in.
If both of your H1s are approved, then I'd imagine you'd receive two approval notices with different company names on it. I believe you'd then have to choose which one you want to use for your visa stamp, and let the other company know you have to turn down their offer. I imagine they won't be happy about it, but it's your right and if you want to be ethical you can offer to refund their H1B filing fees.
I'm not an expert but from what I know the H1B is always issued for a specific person and a specific company. You are able to change the company on that visa, but the company cannot take the visa that was issued to your name and give it to another employee.

Sorry for this non-immigration related post. We have this sudden, tragic situation that I wanted all of your advice on. Thank you for your time in reading this long post.
We had hired an Indian nanny in NJ who, we learnt after hiring her, is here on a tourist visa. We were paying her $350 per week cash, which is the standard rate around here for nannies (incl. citizens and people on GC). We had liked her when we met her in response to an ad on Sulekha, and we thought an Indian nanny would be good for our first child. She has been with us for about 3 months, and we were intermittently not getting a good feeling with her for some reason. We finally bought a small security camera and installed it yesterday. On the very first day with the camera, we came home and saw the recorded video to find that she is violently hitting the baby on two separate occasions. Needless to say, it has shocked, angered and extremely saddened us. I showed the video to a couple of friends and even they say it is unbearable to watch. This was just the first day of recording and it pains us tremendously to think what all may have happened previously.
She is of course not going to stay with the baby alone anymore, but I want to know what legal options I have to penalize her to the fullest extent, so that she does not do this to anybody else�s small babies. She it seems had come here last year and taken care of someone else�s baby in Hoboken, and I can imagine that their baby also went through this. (This woman and her husband are a ~ 35 year old couple, who have a multiple entry ten year tourist visa; both come here for 6 months every year and work odd jobs like this. They apparently got a (unsponsored) tourist visa after showing a lot of landed property in India).
I specifically want to know if I will have potential problems if I go to law enforcement about this- regarding have employed her (both of us are on H1B visas). I know we have made mistakes and should have done better due diligence in this, and there cannot be any more punishment for us than seeing our 8 month old � who cannot tell us about it when we come home- being beaten on the tapes. We saw this yesterday and have not told her yet. We want to weigh all options before we proceed, but from today onwards one of us is home all the time till Friday. Any advice or opinion is sincerely appreciated. Thanks for reading this long post. And, to all who are thinking of nannies or have one, please learn from our mistakes and closely monitor your child�s safety every day.

He deserves so much beating from us for spending so much time, money and enegry for the community.
Even Pappu should be punished for spending too much time on this site wihtout concentrating on his day job.

IV members, we need your stories. We are going to make an all out effort to pass this on to senators/media folks to realize the urgency of the situation.
Who's story do we need?
Your story about how you are affected by retrogression/back log etc. It could be as simple as 'I have a BS in Mathematics and am stuck in back log for 2 years and cannot fulfil my dreams professionally' to 'I have a PhD in Nuclear Science and US needs me coz there are only a handful of us!' Anything and everything works.
We have literally recieved stories of stay at home moms (because of H4 they cannot work) to folks who have been interviewed by MIT! The whole spectrum helps.....please please send us your stories...we need all the weapons when we go face the senators on behalf of IV

Sometimes we get approached by journalists who need a story the very next day. They are looking for specific subjects for the story though.
An example is say the Investors Business Daily (a financial daily). A reporter might come to us and ask us if we have anyone from the Finance sector who is suffering due to retrogression and is willing to speak up about it. They might also add that we need only Eb1/Eb2 category folks.
When this happens, we are in a mad scramble to find folks who fit this criteria so that we do not lose this chance.
Another example might be of a Medical Journal looking for doctors stuck due to retrogression.
We are constantly getting requests like this but cannot capitalize on it because we do not have enough stories already available to fit the criteria.
So please send in your stories. It need not be earth shattering at all (most of us are mere mortals). You never know when a reporter is specifically looking for a story similar to yours and you might just tilt the balance in favor of skilled immigrants.
We promise we will not reveal your story to media if you do not want to.
Though there is no harm to reveal one's name in media as can be evidenced by the folks featured in the Roll Call article, Philly Inquirer and News Observer.
At the same time we understand that you might have reasons to remain out of media and we will fully respect that.
Lawmakers
Even during the recess, we were talking to the staff of a ton of senators. Most of the time the senators' staff are interested only if someone from 'their constituency' is also affected. We always say we have a ton of folks from each state, but nothing works like a real example.
For example, when we speak to say Senator Kennedy, it helps us to present the story of folks affected by retrogression and living in say Boston, MA. That way, the staff has some incentive to look into this and get hooked immediately.
When we initially started meeting senators, their staff would ask QGA 'Immigration Voice, who or what is that?'
Lately when we go to meet them, most of the staff have already visited our website multiple times, know about us because of phone calls and faxes by members and ofcourse the articles that have been published....on top of this when we provide stories of members from their constituency, 50% of our work is already achieved....the liason team and QGA take over from there.

So please send in your stories. It need not be earth shattering at all (most of us are mere mortals). You never know when a reporter is specifically looking for a story similar to yours and you might just tilt the balance in favor of skilled immigrants.
We promise we will not reveal your story to media if you do not want to.
Though there is no harm to reveal one's name in media as can be evidenced by the folks featured in the Roll Call article, Philly Inquirer and News Observer.
At the same time we understand that you might have reasons to remain out of media and we will fully respect that.
Lawmakers
Even during the recess, we were talking to the staff of a ton of senators. Most of the time the senators' staff are interested only if someone from 'their constituency' is also affected. We always say we have a ton of folks from each state, but nothing works like a real example.
For example, when we speak to say Senator Kennedy, it helps us to present the story of folks affected by retrogression and living in say Boston, MA. That way, the staff has some incentive to look into this and get hooked immediately.
When we initially started meeting senators, their staff would ask QGA 'Immigration Voice, who or what is that?'
Lately when we go to meet them, most of the staff have already visited our website multiple times, know about us because of phone calls and faxes by members and ofcourse the articles that have been published....on top of this when we provide stories of members from their constituency, 50% of our work is already achieved....the liason team and QGA take over from there.

Any Updates on how many Masters students H1B visas have been counted. Last i read on this forum was 12,989. Any current news?
